HELP!! Got a Lame horse, with a Capital "L" been lame since November?

Vet has taken x-rays found nothing, she (the vet) did 2 nerve blocks the other evening nothing, she is coming back to do a few more we ran out of day light! we have ruled out laminitis! farrier had corrective shoes on her we pulled those no dice! I tried massage nothing, everything seems to be in place she is just Dead Lame on the right front leg I mean can hardly walk! she does support weight so that I can clean her feet now! which a few weeks ago she wouldn%26#039;t even give me her left hoof to clean it! she wouldn%26#039;t put weight on the right leg she at least does that now! but she is still extrememly sore!

anyone out there have any ideas on what next to try? I%26#039;m stumped!

HELP!! Got a Lame horse, with a Capital %26quot;L%26quot; been lame since November?
Have you looked up higher like into the shoulder and upper leg?

I would also have a chiro come evaluate her.

I agree with accupuncture, used it on my me with great results. Reiki, I%26#039;m not knowledgable about at all lol.
Reply:Get a water hose and was the bottom of the hoof, get a very good magnifying glass and look really well at the hoof for glass, metal or any foreign object in the hoof that you can not see with the naked eye, maybe she has stepped on something and got a bad infection. Pour some Hydrogen Peroxide on the hoof too and see if it is gonna bubble in any spot.
Reply:if the vet has done x rays and found nothing to be wrong surely she would of checked the hoof for soreness first as that is the first place to look on a lame horse if she has ruled out abcesses or a puncture wound in the hoof .

if it was a tendon or ligament you would see or feel the swelling so if the xray has shown nothing i would be looking more on the hind leg as horses that are severally lame on there fore feet are actually compensating for the lameness on there hind please ask you vet to check her hind legs as i had an experience with this with one of my horses done lots of nerve block tests on fore leg to later find it was his hind although he was very lame on his fore leg and never showed signs on his hind its defentley worth asking your vet to check

hope this helps

and good luck i hope she gets better soon i know how stressing it all can be x
Reply:have you felt the hoof for fever? has she picked up a rock in her frog? or a brused sole? check the area between the outer hard wall of the hoof and the frog for discoloration. she could have a abcess.

if all else fails.. a good soak in some warm epsom salted water two to three times a day isn%26#039;t going to hurt her at all.

and you can also try standing her in some cold water if you feel a fever in the hoof. either one isn%26#039;t going to hurt her any.
Reply:Do you have her out in pasture? I would put pads on her front feet if so. She could be stepping on rocks... ALso follow the steps below.

If she is in a stall make sure to keep her only in her stall. no turn out. If your horse isnt in pasture i would reccomend pulling her shoes for the next few months. Buy some really good linament (go to your local feed store and ask what they would reccomend). Make your horses leg WET with linament. Starting at her withers and work down. Then walk her for about 15 minutes in your arena (or wherever you ride). After that bring her back to her stall and put some standings on her. Take them off in less then 18 hours and then give her the rest of the day to herself. Repeat this again and again until she is sound!

If your horse isnt better in three weeks, I would reccomend leaving her out to pasture for three months. Just let her be a horse. I think pasture is the best medicine for anything.

My horse has a bad shoulder and we have to do this once a year. Shes only off for about two weeks, but the first day she is so lame its sad. Then because of this treatment she slowly becomes sound again.
Reply:hi maybe u should leave her alone 4 three days it might help al little bit.
Reply:does she walk like she is favoring the leg or like it is a stump with no feeling.your vet may be looking in the wrong spot and if a nerve block didnt do anything to correct the problem it doesnt sound like an injury problem but a loss of feeling problem.have your vet look at the base of the skull and down the spine she may have a pinched nerve from a ruptured disk or a bone spur..just my opinion
Reply:Has the farrier checked this horse for corns or absesses inside the hoof?

We had a horse went so lame, has xrays and everything done, they thourght the horse had a chipped bone, but turned out after £3000 vets bill the farrier had left a bit of grit under the shoe that hurt the horse
Reply:it sounds like your doing the right thing. If you want to try alternative therapy, go for reiki, acupuncture or chiropractor. I would also say you could try an animal communicator. Don%26#039;t tell them much, just that your horse is lame and the vet doesn%26#039;t know what it is, then you can see if she picks up which leg, when she hurt herself, etc.

You could also try equine physical therapy, there is a women up here who does it.

I would keep working with your vet, but alternative therapies have worked for some horses at our barn. I think other then the vet that%26#039;s your best bet.

One more thought, you could take her to a hospital if there are any close to you, sometimes they have better diagnostic equipment but it will cost a lot more too.

Oh, and clod hosing can help too. 15 minutes twice a day, get the whole leg as you don%26#039;t know what area is causing the pain. Cold hosing will not make anything worse, so it%26#039;s worth a try.
Reply:Not sure how you are housing her but if she is in, try turning her out 24/7. If she is out bring her in for awhile. You can also get a second opinion from another vet. I feel your frustration!
